Spotlight: Qatar

Road to Egypt 2021: Qatar reached the 27th Men’s Handball World Championship as the winners of the 2020 AHF Asian Men’s Championship.

History: Qatar have made seven appearances in the World Championship, and their best finish was in 2015 when they came in second.

Nickname: The Maroons

Under the helm of Spanish coach Valero Rivera López, Qatar became the most powerful team in Asia, claiming the continental title in 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2020.

They also snatched second place in the 2015 World Championship when they hosted the tournament. They were the first Asian side in the semi-finals, and the first non-Europeans in the final.

Qatar have made only seven appearances in the World Championships, starting with their participation in the international tournament in 2003, where they finished in sixth place.

The Maroons made it to Egypt 2021 as the winners of the 2020 AHF Asian Championship.
